Even discounting Trump’s usual bloviation, the US strikes in Iran on Saturday night appear to have caused considerable damage to its nuclear bomb-making capacity. The true extent of the damage is so far not known. On Monday news reports suggested uranium had been moved out of Fordo, and questioned the degree of destruction announced by Trump. As we know, hyperbole is stock in trade for him. Widely underreported is that the attack brought about at least 865 deaths and 3,396 injuries in Iran. In contrast, missile Iranian strikes on Israel resulted in at least 24 deaths and approximately 900 injuries.

Whether Israel will now be any safer long term is unknown as well. We do know   our B-2 bombers will keep Bibi in office awhile longer, as his Gaza war grinds on and Iran

rains down what’s left of its missiles on Israel. Congressional approval for the bombings was neither sought, nor given.

In June 1950, President Harry S. Truman ordered U.S. military forces into Korea following North Korea's invasion of South Korea. This intervention was a key part of the broader Cold War policy of containment, aiming to prevent the spread of communism. Truman's decision was influenced by the United Nations Security Council's call for action and his belief that communist aggression needed to be met with force.

The United States never formally declared  war  on North Korea nor did any other nation. The conflict is often referred to as a "police action" or "undeclared war" because our involvement was authorized by a United Nations Security Council resolution, rather than a formal declaration of war by our Congress.

As a result, 23,613 American soldiers were killed in action; 19,715 died of their wounds; 2,460, went  missing; 1,887 were declared dead.Truman chose to frame the conflict as a UN-led "police action”. He also avoided congressional action. As a former US senator, he knew full well that the U.S. Constitution explicitly grants Congress the power to declare war. It has not formally done so since World War II when on December 8, 1941 FDR described the attack on Pearl Harbor as “a day of infamy”.

When a president orders people into war, he puts their lives at risk. But Trump never put his own life on the line. Truman served as a captain in the Field Artillery during World War I. Vance is a Marine Corps veteran who saw combat in Iraq. Hegseth was an infantry officer who also saw combat and also served at Guantanomo; Rubio never served.

Trump had a “bone spur”.

He dodged the draft.
