In Roman times, the Doge was the highest role of authority within the Republic of Venice. The new DOGE, Department of Government Efficiency, is stacked with recently pubescent acolytes who have been instructed to raise jolly hell. Ready, fire, aim! Right now is grim. But in the long run, the bureaucracy we all love to hate and chafe under could win out. Survival and patience are DNA-ed into its corpuscles.

But don’t rely on the already compromised Supreme Court or other appellate entities to save us. If our national fate is ultimately left to Chief Justice Roberts, and his gang of four, we are toast.
