President Trump achieved an incredible outcome in pushing through a cease-fire and Hamas’s release of the 20 living hostages who were returned to Israel this morning. They were held under cruel and abysmal, conditions for two years. Long after he is gone, this achievement will go down as perhaps the most momentous action in an otherwise sub-mediocre presidency.

To get this done, he smacked Bibi upside the head. He forced Hamas to cut its losses and he pushed through the hostage release. The cease-fire deal was brokered by his son in law Jared Kushner, his real estate buddy Steve Witkoff, various Qataris, Marco Rubio and likely many unsung others. We hope this is the beginning of a lasting peace and the reconstruction of Gaza -- even a Hotel Gaza Trump. But does his feat grease his glide into Heaven?

Trump openly craves the Nobel peace prize and induced Oily Bibi to nominate him. This  must be a non-starter. This has to be pure chutzpah. It’s like the little old lady who got air-sick, hurled all over the sleeping man next to her and when he awoke sweetly asked “feeling better ?” The Don does not deserve a pass for his unending vindictive behavior, nor for his outright cruelty, his bigotry, his manic glee at inflicting hate and harm, his outright lies, nor for the perpetual grievance shtick. This man is waging undeclared war on the high seas, abetted by the toadies around him. He is loosing an unwanted, unneeded militia on US cities governed by Democrats. He is ultimately responsible for ripping sleeping children from their parents’ arms, urging masked goons with guns to seize anyone anywhere who is, or looks, Hispanic.

Trump, a convicted felon, is the real insurrectionist! He tries to curb speech he does not like, pulls books off library shelves, extorts universities, law firms and individuals. He has caused the, uh, Trumped up indictments of New York AG Letitia James and fired FBI boss James Comey; John Bolton, Sen. Adam Schiff and Fani Willis are also on the (s)hit list. He is trying to fire a Federal Reserve board member he doesn’t like, (another Black woman. That’s three so far. He fires black men too; he is after all an equal opportunity bigot.) He has failed to dislodge Jerome Powell who he himself appointed go run the Fed. The economy is a-tremble: inflation at the consumer level continues to tick up. Whether the Fed cuts interest rates once more before year-end may not make much of a difference.

His presidency is a subsidiary of the Trump organization. This is incredibly tacky, even for him, arguably Illegal, maybe unconstitutional; it is outright abuse of the office. Trump is minting Trump currency; he has become an eager convert to crypto: (scam alert/fair warning!) He uses the Oval Office to line his and his family’s pockets with the people’s money. A feckless, narrowly Republican-dominated congress has bent to his will. A lackluster Democratic minority clucks over the eggs, though Schumer properly shut down the federal government to save Medicaid for some 14 million people, lots of ‘em Trumpeters. Republican Speaker of the House Johnson helped; he sent everybody in his chamber home.
