3. Keep flame high. Issue a subpoena to Dr. Anthony Fauci, commanding him to appear before a congressional committee.

Dr. Rachel Bedard, a gerontologist and palliative care physician, wrote in The New York Times on July 29th: “On the advice of his lawyers, the 85-year-old Dr. Fauci made the extraordinary choice during Wednesday’s hearing to plead the Fifth Amendment.

Republican senators peppered him with often hostile questions as he repeated over and over again that he respectfully declined to answer. … Dr. Fauci barely spoke, while everyone else spent some three hours projecting their emotions onto him.”

Rand Paul, an ophthalmologist, does not see clearly. He chooses fog over fact and bluster over balm. Like the rest of us, Dr. Fauci is a flawed man — but he is also an authentic American hero, who since 1968, has guided the nation’s public health bureaucracies across Democratic and Republican administrations. He is trusted by Americans as a clear, objective and rigorous voice.

He served as NIAID* Director from 1984 to 2022. He oversaw an extensive research portfolio of basic and applied research to prevent, diagnose, and treat established infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, diarrheal diseases, tuberculosis, and malaria as well as emerging diseases such as Ebola, Zika, and COVID-19.

Dr. Fauci failed to consider that power is both corrupting and addicting. Yes, he much enjoyed proximity to fame and basked in adulation as any of us might. Did it slip his mind that he was using a government computer when he diarized at candid length?

Rand bellowed and baited. Fauci quietly took the 5th so as not to incriminate himself. What crimes? There are allegations that he lied to Congress about his involvement in funding controversial research; and violated federal record-keeping laws by using a private email account for official business. For this he should be hustled off to San Quentin?
